Corporate responsibility

SOMETIMES NEWS IS SO GOOD YOU HAVE TO SHARE IT OR BURST; YOU'RE PROUD THAT YOUR HARD WORK HAS BEEN RECOGNISED AND IT'S FIRED YOU UP TO GO FOR BIGGER AND BETTER.

That’s how we’re feeling about the ‘well done’ we’ve just received for our green initiatives and our efforts to make workplaces healthier. Eurest, as part of the Compass Group UK & Ireland family, shares in two awards that show we’re making a real difference.

At this year’s Footprint Awards, whose focus is on sustainability, the Compass family won the Environmentally Friendly Logistics Award for its Green & Simple initiative.

Green & Simple drives greener logistics to cut carbon emissions and boost the efficiency of our distribution networks. Its latest achievement is adapting supply routes and consolidating core suppliers so we can deliver through a single distribution path. This slashed 300,000 deliveries from Compass supply routes and reduced carbon emissions across the UK and Ireland by over 4,500 tonnes per year — that’s the amount of carbon created by 900 UK homes in a year.

And that’s not all. Our Compass-wide Know Your Food programme has won the Healthier Scotland accolade at the CIS Excellence Awards for Compass in Scotland.

Know Your Food is all about helping our customers make informed choices about healthy eating and sustainable sourcing, supporting efforts to make workplaces healthier. The programme, introduced in 2012, is an important part of how we make our Responsibility Deal pledges to Government come alive — and it’s great news that Compass and Know Your Food have been shortlisted in the Health and Nutrition category at the 2013 Catey Awards, where our industry recognises its strongest performers.

Yes, this is all about what we have, and hope, to achieve.

But it’s also about you, and how Eurest can help your organisation achieve through our use of greener logistics and by putting health and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do.

So we’re taking a moment to be proud and then it’s back to work, finding new ways to innovate and become even more sustainable. Stay tuned...
