Hygge and food for the soul

Great service

ONE OF THE CORNERSTONES OF DANISH CULTURE IS HYGGE. IT'S HARD TO TIE DOWN EXACTLY WHAT IT MEANS IN ENGLISH, BUT IF YOU THINK OF COSINESS, RELAXING WITH GOOD FRIENDS OR LOVED ONES, CANDLES, ENJOYING SOME GOOD FOOD AND MAYBE SOME GOOD BOOZE, THEN YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BE TOO FAR AWAY.

It’s a bit like a hug for the soul — which is a handy way to remember it, because it sounds similar (when Danes say hygge it sounds a bit like hoog or huug).

Although hygge is a very Danish thing, and it isn’t really about food per se, the idea that atmosphere, food and spiritual and physical nourishment go hand in hand isn’t unique to the chilly extremities of northern Europe.

Think of soul food in the muggy southern states of America, and chicken soup — variants of which can be found all over the world. People have an engrained desire to be nourished physically and spiritually by the food they eat, the company they keep, and the surroundings they do it all in.

It’s what’s behind why people the world over pine for that home cooked meal, usually made by their mother, when they need a lift.

At Eurest we know how important it is that you feel nourished by the food you eat and can relax in the surroundings it’s served in. That’s why, as well as serving great quality, healthy food that you and your colleagues want to eat, we also strive to make our workplace restaurants comfortable and relaxing places in which to take a break from a busy day.

With great people giving great service, we pride ourselves on providing food for hearts, minds and souls — as well as bodies. It’s our aim to provide a little haven in the workplace — a place where people can come to recharge their batteries before getting on with their work, well fortified for the day ahead.

And we think we’re pretty good at it, so if you think you could do with some nourishment in your workplace, get in touch; we’d love to talk you through what we can do for you.
