AWARDS 2009
Hospitality Show, Birmingham
The One Compass culinary team served up 60 awards across live and static theatre, including 18 gold and 12 best in class.
Menu Innovation and Development Awards
The Menu Innovation and Development Awards was a night to remember for Compass: Restaurant Associates' SO Deli team picked up its first industry award in the Best Workplace Catering Solution category and Nick Vadis, our UK Executive Chef, took second place beating catering competitor, Aramark. In the Fairtrade category, our regional sourcing manager, Jane Wakeling, collected the award ahead of shortlisted entries from Sodexo and John Lewis Catering.
RoSPA Awards
We always say that health and safety is one of our top priorities but the RoSPAs gave us indisputable proof. Compass Group received four awards from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), demonstrating our clear commitment to health and safety.
Roger Naylor Hospitality Skills Competition (internal award)
The 2009 winners were Lewis Linley from Barclays Capital who took the top spot in the chef category and Simone Sylvestre from Accenture in the front-of-house category. In second place positions were Scott Cousins from KPMG and Nitin Marwaha from Arora Gatwick. Simon Prendiville from Merrill Lynch and Ed Fletcher from KPMG won third place.
LEP Award Nomination
In May Debby Robinson, who works for Medirest, was recognised for her unfaltering commitment to recruiting at the Derby Hospitals PFI Contract.
Jobcentre Plus Celebrating Success Awards, City and East London District
At the Jobcentre Plus Celebrating Success Awards, the Medirest team at Homerton Hospital were victorious in two categories: Best In Partnership and Recognising Recruitment and Retention.
European FM Awards, Amsterdam
At Compass, we pride ourselves on being partners with our clients and working with them as a team. The proof of our partnership ethic was in the pudding as Eurest Services triumphantly won the Partners Across Borders category with Shell International Ltd at the European FM Awards.
Cateys
We have been proud of our One Compass Welcome technology since its implementation, but we were delighted to be shortlisted for the Best use of Technology award at the Cateys for our induction e-learning module.
Craft Guild of Chefs Awards
Dennis Mwakulua, Head Chef at the Fujitsu Services head office in Baker Street, picked up the title of Contract Catering Chef.
London Chef of the Year
Chef Ben Ford won the much-coveted title of London Chef of the Year by impressing the judges with the high standard of his menu and the ease of his culinary skills in the kitchen.
ESB
Our team at Compass Group Ireland was delighted to receive a double bout of recognition as their top choice from prestigious client ESB.
Grocer Gold Awards
Compass distributor, 3663 First for Foodservice has been named the Green Wholesaler of the Year for doing the most in the past year to lessen its impact on the environment.
The British Frozen Food Federation
Millifoods Ltd was awarded the Best New Multi-Portion Product for its vegetable lasagne. This product is sold in all Compass Tesco stores.
Big Tick
Compass Group's highly successful Junior Chefs Academy has retained its Big Tick in the education category for this year.
British Sandwich Industry Awards
At Compass, we were not content with winning the Workplace Sandwich Supplier of the Year – we wanted to win with two of our offerings which is exactly what we did. Compass secured the top spot with SO Deli and Origin Foods.
NES Workforce Development Awards
Akvile Balciunaite of Compass won the Train to Gain award. The judges were impressed with her genuine passion and felt she showed admirable aspirations for progression.
